With Washburn's trade value at its highest, the Mariners sent the 34-year-old to the Tigers for left-hander Luke French and minor league prospect Mauricio Robles. The deal was announced just hours before the non-waiver 4 p.m. ET trade deadline arrived.
3.The Minnesota Twins made a move to upgrade their middle infield, acquiring shortstop Orlando Cabrera from the Oakland Athletics for the stretch run in the crowded AL Central race.
Now, the A's will bring up Cliff Pennington from Triple-A Sacramento to be their everyday shortstop in place of Cabrera. Former AL Rookie of the Year shortstop Bobby Crosby is serving in a utility role.
4. The Blue Jays and Reds have agreed to a trade that would send third baseman Scott Rolen to Cincinnati if the player waives his no-trade clause, a source said Friday.
Pending Rolen's approval, the Blue Jays would receive Reds third baseman Edwin Encarnacion and prospects.
5.The Chicago White Sox acquired Jake Peavy from the San Diego Padres for four players.
The Sox sent pitchers Aaron Poreda, Clayton Richard, Dexter Carter and Adam Russell.
